RMR Testing
Resting Metabolic Rate Scan
How it Works
Resting Metabolic Rate Testing
To test this, we use indirect calorimetry using ‘The REEVUE‘ by Korr. This technique involves measuring the amount of oxygen a person consumes and the amount of carbon dioxide they produce during a specific period (10 minutes). This method is considered the gold standard for testing your resting metabolic rate (energy burnt at rest).
For athletes, this can be an accurate way to gauge how much nutrition is required to optimize performance, muscle growth and recovery. For the general population, it can aid in weight management strategies and assess potential metabolic disorders. Overall, it provides valuable data for tailoring nutrition and training programs.
Factors that can influence your results
Avoiding exercising, eating and consuming caffeine prior to your scan is important. It is recommended that you arrive fasted. This is because these variables can affect your resting metabolic rate results.
Results
Gaining an understanding of your metabolic rate can help to guide your nutrition and lifestyle habits. If you’re looking to optimise your body composition or metabolic rate and see changes between tests, it is recommended to work with a Dietitian to get a personalised nutrition plan.
